Incoterms

Incoterms are a codification of international rules for the uniform interpretation of common contract clauses in export/import transactions. The table below displays the responsibility of the seller and buyer for each trade term.

Notes:
  • Always name point (e.g. FOB Long Beach).
  • C Group terms are NOT arrival contracts, i.e. risk of loss/damage fall upon the buyer (seller fulfills contract in the country of shipment)!
  • PSI (Pre-Shipment-Inspection) cost always to be borne by the consignee (unless mandatory rule applicable to exports in shipper's country).
  • Export Licenses responsibility of the shipper (Incoterms do exempt EXW clause, but this is not recommended in the U.S. and its laws).
